Gmail now displays images

Gmail just made an announcement that they are displaying images by default now. Until now users had to click the “display images below”. Google is able to safely do this because all images will be now served through Google’s own proxy servers.

How will this affect you? You may see an increase in open rates for gmail addresses since now almost all of them will load images. (Not 100% though – some users can retain legacy behavior of images off and it’s unclear how users will be accessing email via POP and IMAP.
